NYCN Chairmen Dismiss Parallel Leadership Structure

The Forum of State Chairmen of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, has reaffirmed the leadership of Amb. Sukubo Sara-IgbeSukubo as the only constitutionally recognized President of the Council, warning against any parallel leadership structures.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its meeting, the Forum emphasized that only the Sukubo-led executive has the constitutional mandate to call a National Management Meeting.

The Chairmen accused those behind the parallel gathering of attempting to destabilize the youth constituency for financial gains.

The Forum further alleged that the impostors’ actions were aimed at misleading the public, tarnishing the Council’s reputation, and obstructing its mission to serve Nigerian youth.

It called on the legitimate national leadership to take legal action in line with the NYCN constitution to protect the Council’s integrity and effectiveness.

The communiqué warned against any activities that would undermine the authority of the current leadership, reaffirming that Amb. Sukubo remains President until his tenure expires in September 2025.

Meanwhile, the Forum commended the Minister of Youth Development, Hon. Ayodele Olawande, for his efforts in youth empowerment through initiatives such as the proposed National Youth Conference, the Nigeria Youth Academy, and the Youth Data Protection Awareness Program.

In a move to foster peace and unity, the Forum announced the creation of Peace and Conflict Resolution Committees across all six geopolitical zones. These committees, according to the Forum, will handle complaints related to leadership disputes and resolve emerging conflicts fairly and promptly.
